This life is hard,
you know it well,
you’ll get pushed into the deep end,
and learn to swim,
come back to the surface,
and fall back in.
It happens to the best of us,
but you’ll get through it all,
just keep on walking, or running, or swimming, or climbing, or fighting
and keep your head high,
for it I’ll be by your side,
and if I see it falling, I’ll hold it up,
and guide you forward, or push you forward, or drag you along that cracked path, no looking back.
Because it hurts,
and I know it does,
I watch you come home and fight hard to contain it-that sorrow and distress mixed with anger and the hopelessness that grows,
for you think you’re not cut out for this life,
but I know you are,
so don’t stop, or pause, or look back,
because I’m by your side and I won’t stop,
I won’t stop walking, or running, or swimming, or climbing, or fighting,
I won’t stop until you’re happy,
because then I’ll be happy too,
and when I smile,
I’ll think of you.
